I imagine that you had in mind the empty chair, isolated, sort of looking over an expanse of empty whatever.
By taking it in portrait aspect ratio, imo, there isn't enough 'in front' of the chair.
If shot in landscape mode there still would be the background looming over the emptiness and there would be more in focus and nicely contrasty to make it enjoyable.
As it is there is a huge amount of flattish greys that really don't help much.

This appears to be one of those shots that just couldn't be done. I agree about wide angle vs. telephoto, but this is a private, locked field, so using a telephoto zoom at about 135 through the fence was the only option. I've been struggling with this image but it didn't occur to me that it needed to be done with a wide angle, or at least a normal lens. Thanks for commenting.
