While I consider myself very accepting of all people in this world I still don't dress differently. Does that mean I'm a lemming?

So do I... I used to dress differently, but then I had to get a job and gave it all up. You're only a lemming if you are stuck thinking the same way as everyone else and have no discernibly unique traits!

I always find that people who dress really differently complain alot about people staring at them. I can understand when someone has something that they can't change about them. The colour of their skin, a visible disability. But I've always found it funny when people go out of their way to show the world they're different and then complain that no-one excepts them for who they are. Personally if I were gonna dress differently I would think people staring would be the best part about it. Pulling the "KISS" tongue, and really scaring the sh!t out of people.

I should probably stay out of this conversation, I don't want anyone to take me the wrong way.

It all depends on where you are......This coming from a girl who wore a towel in las vegas (long story....funny but long!) and no one even looked twice. We are used to every walk of life and every kind of look out there! : )

Dang ... gone to the doctor for a couple of hours and it takes off!

First off, thanks Terri ... the kicker is ... ya'll have seen Raven and me in the snapshots part ... we aren't spiked and leathered out ... mainly we just tend to lean toward a more dramatic look ... mainly with the make up ... but the clothes aren't that big of a deal ...

I don't know. If I did the white face, black lipstick and stuff, I could see people being curious (and I'm being nice) but we buy our clothes where every other third person does ... 'cept the few items from Hot Topics ...

Rob ... you gotta show ... I'm getting a picture of Adam Ant in my head ... or Rick Springfield when he played that Vampire guy in that short lived series!

Bace, I don't think anyone accepting is a lemming ... I do think, however, that the 'you can't / shouldn't do that' attitude is kinda like the dreaming in black and white and what is color, really thread from yesterday.

People generally like me, and LOVE Raven when they get to know us. We rarely meet a stranger, so there is that.

I guess my point was, we were just puttering along, minding our own business, relatively normal looking, and we dang near got doused in holy water!

I may raise my eyebrows at the teenie boppers in their belly shirts and thong charms, simply because it scares me to know that I have kids that age and the appearance of the advertising they're doing worries me. My kids come up with their own style and as long as I don't see more than 10% of their skin, rock on. My 14 year old daughter looks 18 without any extras ... put make up and style on her and she could be 25! But I don't judge them or berate them.

Anyway ... I try to think for myself and I guess I don't understand when others don't ...

Makes me intolerant, eh?

discrimination in any shape or form is just not acceptable...

i dont care if its against a physical or mental handicap... or a geographical handicap... or a fashion statment that you dont agree with it...

its not acceptable... but its like alot of things in life, you over come.. there are times your gonna be around a rude and obnoxious person, and there is nothing to be done, if your at a movie, you try to move away, or you leave....unless your 6 ft and can hold your own...

but intimidation is intimidation.... if more people would hold their tongues, or hold their judgments to themselves, and just let them get to know others, that would change a bunch.... and if i seem different, and some one thinks one thing, and later, after meeting me, sees me a different way, and then wishes to be closer firends, then i have proven to them that you cant judge a book by its cover...

also.. remember, jeffery dahlmer looked well dressed everyday kinda young man... and he wasnt...

no matter how much i may want things to be black and white they are not..and never will be....

but no one is free of judgement.... people are looking at you everyday...

i chose my look.... but i am not ME in a soccer mom look.... that is being one who blends in for the crowd approval... that is harder and more painful.... to be what you are not, then what you are...

I think I'm just concerned that one may assume that just because one "blends in" that they're looking for "crowd approval". Like just because someone shops at Old Navy they're trying to "fit in". When really that IS them. That IS what they like to wear. And no-one is looking for approval.

I don't know, like I said, I couldn't give a rats ass what anyone wears. We're all bloody human. I actually attend many different club nights in Toronto, and believe me this city is HUGELY diverse. Sometimes I just have to wonder why people go to such extremes. It also sometimes bothers me when I see white faced goth types, laughing at ravers.
You'd think they might appreciate the differences.

Anyway. Do what you gotta do ladies, you're alright in my books!
