Been looking at lens and people have told me this would be a good choice.

i dont really wanna spend over 400-500 quid if i can help it, just looking for a lens that will be open to alot of things Ie, Portraits, landscape, club, bit of everything really

Tamron 17-50, f2.8, XR Di II

Canon EF 17-40mm f4L USM

Thanks in advance

If you want a lens to use as a club, than I'd suggest the 1200mm f5.6

but for general-purpose photography, the 17 -40/50 is an excellent FL range. I'd prefer the f2.8, but I'm not sure about the quality of the Canon vs the Tamron.

Sorry when i said club, i should have said nightclub.

im unsure what you get.. i will figure it out some how

That f number is the maximum aperture. The smaller the number means the wider the aperture... which means the more light gets in. For a dark environment, esp. a nightclub where flash may not be an option, you will want a faster lens. The f/2.8 is better than the f/4 in the case of nightclub photography.

Both of those lenses are quite wide in terms of what you can see and photograph through them... 17mm at the widest is quite wide.
