Lens choice with D60

I'm thinking about getting a D60, but what I'm wondering is if I should get the kit lens or just buy the kamera and invest in a different lens. Has anyone here got any experience with the lens that comes supplied with the D60?

If you invest in lens other than kit lens, make sure they have built in focusing motor as the D60 does not have focusing motor in the body.

For the money, the new VR kit lens looks like an excellent deal to me.

My favorite of all the kit lenses including the new 18-55VR and the 16-85VR is the 18-135. I love the added range, it's super sharp and has great image quality overall, and it has real AF-S with instant manual focus override. It doesn't have VR, but I've never really needed it. It's cheap too. $300 new / $200 used. So that's what I'd get.
