Hey guys so before I ask you the question I want to make clear that I have looked up the stats of both lenses but i'm just curious now, please if you have had personal experience with both lenses feel free to comment or speculate.

Alright so as you can see I own a 55-200mm VR. What I was thinking was, I can sell this one, and maybe aquire a 55-300mm VR or 75-300mm VR. Now the reason for the post is. What's the big difference between both 300's and also Is it worth spending the extra money for the extra 100mm? I'll be using the lens for a bit of wildlife but mostly during the day outdoor sports. So therefore the speed of the lens isn't really an issue.
Thanks for looking.

Yep have had both the 55-200vr and 70-300vr. And yep that 300mm is appreciated for wildlife and sports. Also the 70-300vr is much better build being an Fx and Dx lens.

As to the new 55-300vr been getting decent reviews even from user that have experience with the 70-300vr. Tho I still believe the 70-300vr has the superior build an proven track record.
.

The newer 55-300 VR is a DX lens.

The 70-300 mm VR is an FX lens, and is fully functional on DX bodies.

DX lenses can be used on FX bodies, but they don't all project a large enough image circle to fully illuminate the full frame sensor. Consequently, full frame Nikon's have an Auto DX detection feature that only uses the central 5 MP of the larger image sensor.

Of course, that is not a consideration if you have a DX body, but at resale time the FX lens somwhat broadens the potential buyer base.

I recommend the 70-300 mm VR FX lens.

Alright I'll definately be looking into this. Perhaps go to the local store and trade in my old lens with some cash for the 70-300 VR FX. Thanks alot for the feedback.
