Lens info

so im thinking about getting a new lens for my pentax MX camera.

im looking on e-bay for cheap 500mm lenses and im wondering what brand is crap and what brand is ok. What glass should i avoid at all costs or type of lenses. I've seen a couple of mirror lenses and i think i should avoid those or are they ok.

anyway, id just like some ideas on what is good and will give me good picture quality vs. what brands are crappy and will give me crappy pictures.

also, i have an old Pentax MX camera with a K mount. the only electronic thing on the whole camera is a light meter so brands that are not compatible with that are out.

I've been tempted by the cheap mirror lenses. Every review I have read of them says they are ideal paperweights and little else! If I decide to go mirror then I will probably follow the route of camera manufacturer (in my case Nikon) or a good independant such as Tamron. Keep an eye out for some of the russian gear, it often comes with a T2 mount and just might be worth gambling a few quid on.

I wonder if there are really better and worse mirror lenses. even zeiss doesn't coat their mirotar lenses with the T* .
