Lens input?

I had another thread about this a while back, and the verdict was a wide angle 10-24 (or thereabouts). I am most definitely considering that as a next purchase. However, upon reading some things on Strobist, it seems to make sense to have (well, a second body - but besides that) a sharp lens similar to a kit lens; in the sense that there is a wide range of focal lengths (low-high ; ie. 18-200) - as well as a fast zoom lens (which I have). Does anyone have any advice on this they are willing to offer? More importantly, do you think it is worth it to buy a lens with a long focal range (correct my terminology if I am wrong), or several different lenses with shorter focal lengths? I have an 18-105, so I guess I am asking if there is a lens similar to that with more zoom, and better quality.

All are excellent and fast constant aperture short to mid length zooms. Some are current, others are discontinued but widely available.

Yes.

Because all the superzooms have to incorporate to many image quality killing design compromises to be able to zoom from close to far.

I recommend either the budget or pro Nikon trinitys of zoom lenses

If you shoot NIkon, you really owe it to yourself to go to Ken Rockwell's pages and comb through the list of lenses and their reviews. Like fine wines, fine lenses are expensive. But there are MANY almost forgotten Nikon-made lenses that are very affordable,and which cost less than $200 on the used market. For example, the older 70-200 f/4 AF...quite a decent lens...the cheap-o, plastic mount 28-100 and 35-80-AF-D lenses...plastic build, plastic mount, and yet, surprisingly good optics at normal shooting apertures.

u might also want to consider the tamron 17-50mm 2.8 or the tamron 28-75mm 2.8, both quality 3rd party options to the expensive nikon pro glass.
