Lens Issue. wont work.

I have a canon 40d. I have a Sigma 17-35 lens that I use from my film camera days. Today i put the lens on and it doesnt work. Looking through the camera's viewfinder all i see is black. theres nothing obstructing the lens or camera. Everything works fine with other lenses.

Also, the pictures to come out.

Any ideas on what's going on?

Older Sigma lenses have compatibility issued with newer Canon cameras. Contact Sigma and they can tell you if they can do anything about it or not.

For a while Sigma was rechipping lenses for free. You pay the shipping. I don't know if thats only lenses in warranty or what though. As mentioned above give them a call. And have the serial # handy as they will probably want it.
