Lens prices

Am I missing something or have mirrorless lens prices just gone through the roof?

What has not gone up in price since the US has lost its mind. But I'll stop typing, no politics here.

Problem for me is I do not believe it will ratchet back down to the new reasonable. It's gonna stay high. Party's over we've been fortunate for a couple decades.

From the Nikon end of things:
The company was about to go under just a few years ago, so for them to even be in game again, let alone with good products, is commendable.
This, however, has come with 'adjustments': put the hammer down on outside repairs, knock the warranty down to one year...none of this spells "Lower prices."

Not news, but: the major camera manufacturers are all competing for a shrinking, aging, specialist market, that of "conventional photography". You have the pros and older amateurs left to foot most of the bills. So, margins get jacked up. Add tariffs and such, and nothing ever seems to go down again.

I just picked up a refurb Z 14-24mm 2.8 from Nikon itself. With a slight extra warranty and tax, it will run me about $2200. Is the lens "worth that"? Not really. It's a good wide zoom; but it's also a piece of plastic that, all told, doesn't justify north of 2 grand, used or not. That's the new reality.
