can someone explain why this
Nikon AF-S 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IF ED VR

is more expensive than the 18-200 vr lens. what would be the advantage of paying more for something with less focal range?

At B&H the 18-200 is 700$(US) while the 24-120 is 550$(US).
The former is a DX lens and the latter is a full frame - more glass.
