Lens Question

Hi. I have a Kowa LM28CLS 28MM Lens with Nikon F Mount. It's a line scan lens used in manufacturing. I was wondering if this lens would be suitable for use in photography? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see why not long as it doesn't interfere with the mirror or shutter mechanism, also make sure it's not going to break anything on the mount. I've seen some mount security camera lenses on DSLRs and while the quality is utter crap, it is very unique. JUST BE CAREFUL.

I think it might be a very useful lens. Are you familiar with its current, new, retail street price of $1800 to $2,000?

I think it is highly doubtful that the rear element will hit even an FX Nikon's mirror.

Hi. Yes I am. Thanks for the reply. I was hoping it would be useful for photographers since I don't have an industrial customer base.

OK I will keep you in mind if I do end up mounting it. I was more interested in trying to sell it, but wasn't sure if it was suitable for photography.

Before mounting, see if the rear element moves forward (which would be away from the camera) when focused at it's minimum distance. If it does, I would not fire the camera until I had set the lens to that minimum focus to see if the mirror clears. To do so, I would set the camera to "Mirror Up for Cleaning", then mount the lens (set to MFD), then turn the camera off. See if the mirror returns as normal and you can see through the VF. If so, I would repeat the process, slowly increasing the focus distance until I was at infinity.

If the mirror is going to hit something, it's better to do so on it's way back down.
