Lens repair? need help

I have a Minolta 50mm 1:2.8 macro lens. The focus ring is getting real tight. My cameras are bogging down when focusing.(Only on this lens) You can feel it get stiff around 1 ft to 8.4 inches. My two questions are. Will this hurt the focusing motor in my A700 and 2 can this be fixed? anyone know of a good place to send it? I'm in Chicago IL If that helps? Thanks in advance for any help!!!
