Is this a good lens ?

The 'spec' of it is good enough. 1.8 is pretty fast ( although not the fastest - fastest typical is 1.4 and 0.9x do exist I believe ) but it does look dusty - not sure how much the dust would effect pictures tho.

prime lens = yay...I think. Glass, not plastic, right? Can you show us the other end, where it connects to the camera?

Its a fine lens nothing wrong with it. Its not an auto focus lens though. Its a great lens for low light situations and portrait type work.

you would probably want to use this lens for low light, as the low f-stop allows more light into the camera, allowing for faster shutter speeds.

That is the old Nikkor MF 50mm f/1.8 AI lens.
That was the standard lens sold with Nikon manual focus cameras.

A review ... even Ken Rockwell has a review on this lens.

A good prime lens (yes glass).
It good for portraits and low lighting.
