Lense Help!

O.K. so I unscrewed the top part of my lense, but I can't put it back on. It's a Sigma 75-300mm, Minolta AF. Does anyone know how to put it back on?

Can you give more details? Was it just a filter on the end?

I have no idea what it's called(newbie) but it's the front end, not that big, it takes up about 1/4 of the lense. Do you want pics?
