let's talk about the new EOS 60D...

^ I prefer the weighted cameras more as I find it easier to get steady shots with more weight rather than using something lighter

When I was gettin' my 500D I could have picked a 50D instead. I tried both cameras and decided on a 500D instead. I don't know why it's such a big deal for all the folks to have a "metal" body. Yeah it's better built because it's metal but who drops their camera around so that it breaks?

For me the biggest factor was camera mobility, and for that I picked 500D. It's smaller than the 50D due to the absence of the top LCD (which is useless for me, thanks to the viewfinder/rear LCD). 50D is a LOT heavier and bulkier than 500D which makes it bad for carrying around your neck for 5-6 hours a day. A friend of mine picked up 50D instead, and now she regrets it because it's too heavy.

And besides slightly higher fps, other spec considerations are too minor between the two.

60D is interesting for now, but Canon keeps coming out with more "rebels" every year. We'll have to wait and see what they will come out with next.

lol. I bought my 300D because I'm a cheap bastard. $300 w/ lens two years ago was steal.

The lack of PC sync port is almost moot at this point since it has built in wireless flash command through the pop up (same as the 7D). And if for some reason you don't want to use this free built-in feature and don't want expensive Canon brand triggers, you could easily pick up some 10$ wireless radio triggers off ebay.

The built in wireless command is great if you are using Canon speedlights but it looses it's utility if you start shooting off brand flashes or studio strobes. Also, the ebay triggers from what I gather are about as reliable as the original Alien Bee wireless triggers I have. Let's just say I can't wait to upgrade those items.... Nothing sucks more than to be in the middle of a shoot and have your lights randomly start triggering or not trigger when you intend them to :(. Plus, the sync port is a pretty safe back up option should your wireless system fail.

+1. Upgrading to the heavy 50D from the Rebel XTi was incredible and there is no way I'd consider going back. Hopefully whatever they do with the 5D line stays true to form; thats where i'll be going in years to come. I was minor-ly bummed the 50D had an upgrade but from what I've seen and read I would still buy the 50D if I were buying today.

Whats the difference between this and the 550D?? Why would they switch to plastic bodies for a **D model camera when all the others are metal and its what people are expecting in this line. Makes no sense. Just get a metal body. No one means to drop their camera, but the metal body will have a much great chance of surviving, and they just feel better.

WTF i have been waiting on upgrading my XTi. i wanted to see what the 60D was all about. well from what i have been looking at its not much of an improvement. Biggest turnoff SD cards. i thought all xxD and xD cameras were using CF. guess im getting the 50D before its to late.
