Hello,
New member here, also a photography enthusiast. I have recently acquired my first DSLR camera in June. I purchased a D3100 and have been extremely happy with it and primarily use it with entered Manual settings. I had done several hours of research before my purchase and like most always want something nicer or better than what I'm currently using. I have recently been looking at the D90 because you can get them for a relatively great price and the camera has an excellent reputation.

The problem I have with changing to any of these older more expensive models is that technology keeps pushing forward and is always improving. My concern is that there has been a significant improvement from the Expeed 1 to the current Expeed 2 processor which includes efficiency and higher resolution amongst others. What I am curious to know is, has yesterdays higher end model become today's entry lever SLR Camera?

I personally can not tell much of or any differences in picture quality from any current SLR camera from the D3100 to the 7D am I missing something?

I would love to hear some of your thoughts regarding SLR cameras thanks !

(Here is a couple recent photos I have taken/ D3100 with 18-55 lens)

In average conditions with the same lens, you're going to be very hard pressed to tell an image shot with a D3100 from one shot with a D3s. Higher end cameras distinguish themselves from their lesser priced bretheren in two major areas. One is build quality, including metal chassis, single-function controls, weather-sealing, etc. The other area is in more extreme conditions; low light, high speed, and so on. Pro gear will always be pro gear, but pro gear that is a generation or two old is affordable by most, and something often overlooked when people want the newest, latest, greatest DSLR.

Thanks for oyur reply its good to hear a different perspective. You can certainly tell a difference in build quality in the higher end models. Any others care to chime in.

There was no light on. A parrot's enemy in a home is the fan!
Also I didnt pick that ISO it was the camera who picked that one lol.
