Lighting feedback

The rear LCD monitor on a virtually all cameras is not a calibrated screen so even shooting in JPEG mode will reveal differences from camera LCD to actual import and display on a calibrated computer screen. The brightness of the camera LCD can also influence what one may see as incorrect or correct exposure. UniWB was the result of many photographers frustration with this issue however, it has fallen to the wayside since it displays a green image on the cameras LCD which required post processing and only shooting in Raw for correction.

FWIW, reading the histogram in a more critical fashion can improve your final output. Do some testing with a few known targets and get a feel of how far the cameras LCD and the histogram vary if you don't want to tether all the time. I'd also agree with smoke665, a light meter is a great investment but sadly most people don't use them these days in place of seeing the image on the camera with all of its caveats.
