Lightnin'

No tips, but that first shot is quite unique with the way that sign on the right got lit up! Very neat!

1) Find general direction of strikes and time intervals between
2) Set up camera with best settings (Fast shutter speed, adjust Fnumber accordingly, keep ISO low - you will be using burst mode)
3) Count down until just before the expected strike and fire away.

Repeat until Great success ;)
Good luck

Why not just use bulb mode?

Cool shots but the power lines ruin them, at least for me.
1 was way over exposed
2 is nice aside from the power lines.

I tend to shoot my lightning shots in aperture priority, F5.6, ISO100, and in rapid fire mode. Of course I mix things up based on the lighting conditions.

Why not just use bulb mode?

Blub mode works great in pure darkness but I can do most of my lightning shots in under 30 seconds. In fact some of the best ones have been in the 5-10 second range.

Agree....bulb mode is the way to go in my opinion too.

Bulb, and vary the aperture depending on how far away the lightning is and surrounding ambient light.
