Logo?

I know this is a photography forum not a graphic design forum but you are making a mistake (that you are free to make) but if you search "papyrus font" in google this is the second result after the wiki entry. Papyrus Watch - Exposing the overuse of the Papyrus font. it is a whole site dedicated to the over use of this font. It is everywhere because it comes with every editor out there. just do a font search and you will find thousands for free, this font is like using clip art and does not say "hey that looks creative, I bet the photographer is too."

This is one of my favorite font sites.
dafont.com

I am married to a graphic designer.

lol
yes I am also going to change the font
I have found like a million fonts and do not know which one to use.
too many choices.
I really like the papyrus style, but change is a little so it is NOT THE FONT, know what I mean?

A logo needs to be memorable to everyone except you, your dad, and your grandfather.

I want a purple martin (bird) in my logo because it is a special memory I have with my dad and my dad with his dad....

A logo is not about what you like, it is about a logo that is effective at branding your work.

i say get rid of the bird. just not feeling the bird sorry.....
Logos should always be simple. Putting too many things just make it more distracting.
Simple Crystal Belle Photography would look nice IMO.

A logo is about branding with the goal of creating quick, easy recognition. When you start, there will most often be some text in there but you need to think about the future when you are known enough so as to remove the words, ie the Nike swoosh, the Coca Cola wave, etc

I understand your memories but they don't belong in a logo. Take the word photography out and not one person will have any idea what you do. Not always a problem but still something to keep in mind.

Another thing to keep in mind is how it will look in B&W. You may not always advertise in color so the B&W version is important. The number of colors is also important. The more of them there are, the more expensive it can get to print. Colors that touch are also harder to print than colors that don't touch each others, and that's another expense.

There are cheap ways to print some things with multi colors today but not everything. Again, you need to look to the future when you design and simplicity can make it much easier/cheaper for you in the long run.

How it looks on an image is of no concern here because a logo is not a watermark.

As far as the name is concerned, and not everyone agrees on that one, I tend to think that a catchy name is better to start with then your own name. When you start, you have no name recognition so give your business a catchy one. It will always be possible to change later when your own name has gained recognition.

There can be a lot of psychology involved in choosing a name. Look in the phone book. A lot of companies start their name with AAA. The reason for that is to the as close to the start of the listings as possible. If you were to name your company XYZ, you'd be at the end of the listings with the problem that most people may never see you because they've chosen someone to call long before they get to the X.

Designing your own logo is a cost saver in the short term but it could cost you dearly in the long run.

Food for thought.

What he said!

Except for the name change midstream. That can be detrimental.

Here's my logo. It took me several months to refine it. The thing for me was to create a logo that was modern, to go along with my design asthetic, and simple enough to become my trademark stamp, that gets stamped into everything I make. Mind you the trademark stamp doesn't have the "design" bar, just the dw.

I have a long version and a short version for various uses.

I agree that you don't need the word photography in your "company" name/logo. Marketing gets the point across as to what you do.

I feel that the occupation words get used when there is some idea of romance involved in relation to the word. Like it makes you what it is. If you catch what I mean.

Keep thinking about it, don't rush it.

Wow! Very nice Bitter.

But you may have explained that you ARE a designer for the sake of those who don't know you. The fact that you design jewelry is of no importance. A good designer is a good designer.
