Long Beach Island Sky

Hello all,

This is a shot I took over the summer overlooking the LBI, NJ bay. I've worked on it a bit, but it's mostly natural. Any opinions on this photo?

(Yes, I am younger, but photography is a passion of all ages, am I right?)

Hmm well I can give you some C&C but brace yourself.

Composition: research the rule of thirds, you have the horizon in the middle which is generally avoided. The horizon looks straight though

Color: I dont know what you mean by mostly natural but it looks very magenta, perhaps over saturated.

What was your goal with this shot? Did you like the reflection on the water? The clouds? Was there a dock or a boat you could have put in the foreground to add depth and a story to the image? Figuring out what you like about the scene or what vision you have in regards to it will help you with your composition. Dont be afraid to step back and just ponder the scene for a moment, I know this can be hard when the light is so good and I still struggle with it myself, easy to get lost in the excitement.

Hey spacefuzz, to answer some of your questions... as I said, i'm still young and not very experienced but I did mess around with the saturation a bit. Besides that, the color of the sky in the picture was pretty much the color when I took the photo in real life, I was astonished and when I noticed the house in the background on that small peninsula, I just knew I had to get the shot. So I waited for about 15 minutes for the sky to darken a bit and waited until the color was at its peak, being the most colorful and beautiful sky I have ever witnessed. My goal in this shot was to capture the house on the horizon. Next time I go to take a shot, I'll keep that part about the horizon not being in the middle in mind. Great tip. Thank you!
