Looking for a new car.

So after 240,000 loyal miles it's time to retire my wife's Subaru. I have been looking at Outbacks and Foresters but want to hear what other people have for family oriented vehicles.

Looking for small SUVs/crossovers and wagons. All wheel drive or selectable 4wd would be nice.

Honda pilots are nice, subarus as you know are good wagons. Kias and hyundais have come up in the world. Volvo makes nice awds. Nissan rogue seems popular Toyota rav 4's. Really should probably do a search through a carfinder template online and look at user and reliability ratings. One thing to always look at is total cost not just vehicle purchase price so you get a idea of repairs and maint. etc. Doing a recall search and car fax on a used vehicle doesn't hurt either.
And consider money amounts as well for purchase.

you really have a good probably hundred choices, not kidding. Someone I know has a smaller version of the gmc Yukon. Forgot the name of it, pricey but nice. Fuel mileage maybe not so much compared to what else is out there.

we have a Durango. nice ride, power, horrible mileage, great awd, fits tons of crap and seats 7 but is totally high maint im sick of fixing it

I like the pilot and rav-4 but ick they are kinda bland.

I would never buy a Dodge or GM. Maybe a ford.

If you want a smaller crossover, the Accord Crosstour looks nice.

I absolutely LOVE my Ford Explorer Sport. I have a 2013 and its nice... leather heated/ac seats, led accent lighting, sun and moon roof, nav, Sirius.... its a really nice SUV. It has a 3rd row and you can fold both back rows down for very nice cargo room. It has the same engine as the F150 with the EcoBoost. I test drove it and fell in love....I was kinda shocked that it was a Ford to tell you the truth. OH, and it can tow 5000 lbs...about 2000 more than most in its class.

What's your price range? 4WD family car can mean anything from a Impreza to Mercedes G65 AMG.

However if you've had a Subaru and like it, I don't think I can recommend anything better in value.

It depends on where you live...Subarus are good for places with snow like North/South Dakota and/or Colorado because they are good for that. We have a MB sports because my husband loves his 'Benz...but as a mom, I love my Acura (by Honda) because it has the safest feature besides it has the GPS Navigation and hands free Bluetooth....plus the entertainment system at the back. My dogs love watching doggie shows on it, keeps them away from the windows. It is just like handing a kid some crayons and colouring pad...complete with snacks and drinks -- remember you are looking for a family car. It means the doors need to be kid proofed while driving...and mess wipeable ... so much to consider. Am sure glad our kids are all grown up...

However if you've had a Subaru and like it, I don't think I can recommend anything better in value.

Price is around 15-20k. So something used with low miles. Plus I think new cars are a waste of money and plus in Maine you have to pay excise tax. Which can be like $600 a year.

I love Subarus but they are expensive to run, mine takes high octane fuel and you have to buy 4 tires at once. Plus they don't get great gas mileage.


It's funny used Subarus are going for as much as used Mercs and BMWs.

I think you'll be surprised at how far the brand has come. If you have any question about Kia...ask away! I would highly recommend. =)

It has plenty of space in the back for all my toys! I understand if you are hesitant about Kia yet. I did a lot of research before I bought it a couple years back and had a hard time pulling the trigger to actually buy it. I don't regret it for a second. All I'm saying is go test drive one...you never know.
