I am looking for guidance on choosing a professional headshot photographer for my upcoming career update. There are so many options available, and I am unsure what qualities I should prioritize, such as lighting style, background choice, editing approach, and pricing.

How important is experience in corporate headshots compared to creative portrait work? Also, should I prefer studio sessions or outdoor shoots for a more natural look?

I am unsure what qualities I should prioritize, such as lighting style, background choice, editing approach, and pricing.

It mostly depends on whether you like the portfolio of a particular photographer and how reasonable the price is. I don't think creativity of the attached photo means a lot compared to professional skills listed in your CV. However, nicely looking photos are visually appealing which may help on a psychological level, so to speak. I'd suggest going for whatever you personally find to be good looking. As long as you're comfortable around the photographer and they are easy to communicate to and work with, the photos will be nice and you will look both relaxed and collected.

Also, does it absolutely have to be a professionally taken photo? Even passport or visa photos can be done yourself nowadays if you have a good smartphone camera (here is a whole guide for doing so, maybe something will be helpful for you as well if you decide to take the pic yourself), if you're aiming at the Linkedin profile type of photos, you can do that on your own imo.
