Looking for critique: Photosession with Gizmo

I decided to have some decent photographs of this guy as the next time I am going to see him again will only be after 6 months or so.

I am looking for sincere critique on #1 only, as I spent a while planning and lighting that one (by arranging the drapes) and tried to give it the "professional" look! Any suggestions on how to improve upon this? A different crop or else...

ok... you framed him too tightly. I would back off a bit and move myself to the left a bit to create leading lines.. sorry I can't explain you better.. I would place a blanket or move him in another place because the floor has similar print as his skin does and I would rather avoid that

See, no tsunamies! Thanks Marija, I'll try out your suggestions, I can do all the things you said as the original image is a lot wider. I was thinking about that floor too, maybe I'll try and replace it with a mesh of some kind. Let me see.

Beautiful dog, great series. But for me "Hide and Seek" works best as a photo when not seen as part of the series and out of the context the moment. As a dog lover, I know just how you felt taking them.

Aww! Good looking dog you have there Raj! I have to agree with Maria about widening the crop. I'd keep the entire paw and ear in the frame.

#5, hide and seek is my favorite...it's just got a wonderful vibe to it.

Shot #4 is a pretty good photo to look at as a learning experience in framing/composition. The issues are the upper right hand corner and the cables, and the low placement of the eyes, and the low placement of the overall, total animal as a whole, within the frame space. That shot, #4, is a good example of the camera being aimed too high...there is too much top space above...it includes the cables in the upper right. The excessive top space forces everything else to "ride low in the frame". The camera's height is actually below eye-level of the dog, but the camera is aimed just a bit too high....which is making the nose of the dog very close to the bottom of the frame.
