Looking for more reach

I am using the Sigma 70-200 OS on my D7000

I want more reach for wildlife. I am mulling over the right direction to go at this point. I can get a tele converter 1.4 or 2.0 or I could get the Sigma 150-500 lens.

Need opinions on what would give the best IQ for the reach im tring to get to.

I have a vivitar 2X TC and a sigma 150-500 for my d7k and I can tell you I would give away the 2X TC before I gave away the "bigma" as it's called. The Sigma is big but, I have no regrets when it comes to that lens. The TC however, I regret buying. Just my Opinion though. Good luck!

I can only tell you my experiences. I have both a 1.4 TC and a 2.0 TC. I've tried them both with my 70-300 and found that the (admittedly inexpensive) 2.0 is utterly worthless. The IQ is terrible and it slows the lens down 2 full stops. The 1.4, on the other hand, is much, much better. With the 70-300 the IQ is only slightly degraded and it actually works pretty well. It does cost one stop though. The 2.0 is a Kenko M7 and the 1.4 is a Kenko Pro 300 DGX. Huge difference in quality, and the 2.0 in the Pro version may be much better.

I also have the Sigma 150-500 and am very happy with it. It doesn't have the IQ or speed of a $10k lens but then I didn't pay $10k for it either. It is relatively slow at f/5-6.3 and it is relatively heavy at about 4 pounds, but it does a very good job in my opinion. I do, however, normally usually use a monopod to help with the balance. Using a 1.4 TC on it is a waste of time though. 700mm sounds good but the IQ is pretty lousy at the long end.

Thanks....Im leaning heavily twords the 150-500 at this point...

Do you have any photos from that lens short and long ends....thanks alot for the feedback

These were all shot with mine, but more toward the long end. If I know I'll be shooting under 150mm I normally take my 70-300. It's hard to remember what I shot things with so I can only tell by looking at the EXIF data and seeing if it's longer than 300mm

I've got the Sigma 50-500mm (the aforementioned "Bigma"), and I love it. I think it's rare to find a lens which has such an extensive focal range and is still nice and sharp at both extremes of it...

You know they have the 50-150 out now too. I have thought about selling my 70-200 and picking up one of those so there wouldnt be any gaps in my zoom range.
