Looking for opinions on a few photos....

Thanks for stopping by.
I went to the beach today and brought my camera along to see what I could get "inspired by". I had a few things I tried out, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. SO I thought I would post them up to see what others thought.

1.
First time trying to capture strangers..

2.
While I was taking photos, my wife was collecting shells. She found this little guy with his tongue out, about to dig down. I just wanted the finger, and the reflections to be apparent with the mini clam.

3.
I wanted to get a little Bokeh in there. Sun drenched hand with a little life on it.

4.
Tried out a little HDR.

5.
Again, little more water this time

6.
Bird.

what impresed me more are the hdrs and the first one. the first one is good. the hdrs are interesting but i think a little over the top... but that is my opinion... dunno, never tried hdr.

I think Number 6 has brilliant composition. I really like it. The parallel lines of the waves matching the flowing plummage. Good use of 1/3rds. :thumbup:

Number 1 I think could do with cropping out some of the foreground - but these are just opinions not really c&c.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed #6, I was trying to time it just right and took quite a few takes before I had the water/line that I wanted.



As for the HDR's, my goal was to show how the clouds were reflecting on the sand after the waves pulled back. Plus I was shooting into the sun and wanted detail to show.

I like the first one the best. then the last one. The hdr photos arent the worst ive seen, but maybe try a little "less" if you catch my drift. HDR can be very classy and hard to spot of done correctly. Keep it up, you got a good eye.

I think there is a fine line with HDR shots, not necessarily that it makes the photo bad, but sort of takes it from a photo, to a computer generated surreal image. I think they both have their place, and can both be fun, you just have to be specific on your intention.

With the HDR's I did, I was trying to keep it somewhat toned down, but I do know that I did turn up the saturation a bit once I saw what was happening with the sky and water.. I couldn't help myself; I love blue....

1st and last for sure! all of them are great but the HDR looks a bit over done in my opinion. LOVE the first one though!

I like the first one, i.e. incorporating at least one subject into what's more or less a landscape shot - I find that a lot more interesting than landscapes with no human element, which has been done so much they all just start to look the same.

I'm not a fan of HDR unless it literally looks like it had no HDR done to it but that's just me...
