Looking for sympathy

Well, you technically did get a picture of the sunrise. It's just sort of, y'know, obstructed. Kinda sorta. It peeked out at the top, though.

Well, sunrise pictures generally don't do much for me, but I do sympathize with you in spirit, if not in detail! :)

I am sympathetic. I think you need to come to California to enjoy our sunsets.

My experience is that photographs of sunrises, sunsets, and in fact most photographs of landscapes do not measure up to the actual experience of seeing it in person.

For the people of Los Angeles, it's actually better in pictures than in person. I mean you don't see the smog, traffic jam, homeless people all over, graffity, dirty streets... :D

Total bust. You have to remember that a cloudy sky is a very rare event in this part of the world.

Please feel free to pour sympathy in my direction as it will be weeks before I get another oportunity.

Booo Hoooo pooor me

Umm ... I actually like this picture ... very much, in fact. There are some very subtle tones and graduations in the beach and water going out to the horizon, and the opening in the clouds gives a balance to it. I like the striations in the lower part of the frame. For me, there's a calm but gloomy feel of solitude to it. Maayyybe straighten the horizon a bit (looks low on the right).

I would tinker with the sliders in LightRoom a bit.

FWIW, the ones I hang on my own personal wall are the ones that evoke emotion in *me*, because I remember the experience of shooting it, even though that emotion or zeitgeist, or essence or whatever doesn't come across to others.
