What's new

Looking to upgrade my camera

I would say shoot for a DSLR there is always the option of using automatic until you get your camera figured out
buying a DSLR just to shoot on automatic is like buying a Lamborghini and not even taking it out of 2nd gear, its a complete waste of money of money to buy just for point and shoot

Although I don't shoot on auto on mine, I disagree that a DSLR on auto is a waste of money.... The camera still produces images that are superior to a $200 point and shoot.

thanks to everyone who is helping me with this. I am very new to photography that isn't point and shoot. I have talked the lady down to $160 for the Nikon D50, she doesnt have the manual but a user in this thread gave me a link to it. What I am wondering is..she doesnt have the software CD that it should have came with when she bought it(Nikon pictureproject software). can the camera still be used without and can i get a free download for this? I looked online but got frustrated as all i could find is a download for the version for Mac and not for Windows (specifically Windows 7).

you should be able to use without it, assuming you have PS CS3/4 or LR2/3 you should be find - that is if you want to be able to handle the RAW files. but there are ways of handling that, dont let that stop you from nabbing the camera.

btw Windows 7 version of programs are usually relabeled Vista versions; anything that would run on Vista will work on W7.

I dont have photoshop or anything. I have my kodak easy share software but could invest in the photoshop software as I hear its pretty good. I think Im gonna go get the camera..it seems like a really good deal.

good place to start is photoshop elements or even gimp (crazy learning curve but its free).

but get the camera though, file handling isnt an issue if you shoot in JPEG for now.
