it is a dahlia, apparently, I joined this dahlia club(how sad) on Da.

Thanks for all the comments, yeh there was another shot where i tried a deeper dof and it just didnt seem to work.

yeh, the over exposure was also an issue to me on this one. I wasnt sure wether or not to make it look over exposed as I have seen some purposeful over exposures that have looked quite good, but then I realised I couldnt and so decided to leave it be.
