Trying to post a little more on the site so here is something I took over the weekend. We went downtown for what should have been about a 1.5hr shoot and ended up with 25 minutes of good light thanks to an afternoon shower. Regardless she was a trooper and promises to let me take more later. Anyhow, these both were shot with a Tamron 90mm f2.8 and D90.

Looks like she has freckles , I think they add to her look and would not blow out the face. Tone them down a little and go from there.

these are kinda cute. crop was a little tight on the first and second had lots of open space at the top. so pan out and pan down. be careful not to overexpose her too much since she has really light skin or youll wash out all the facial details.

Too much dead space above her in the 2nd photo.

You seem to like putting things smack dab in the middle of the frame. Both images have poorly-used negative space in them. Rule of 3rds does wonders for portraiture! (and don't just follow the rules too)

Also agree on the freckles comment. Freckles are cute as **** and deserve to be present in the image! (I hate all those Photo Professional banners that show a really cute freckled girl getting her face wiped clean with their "amazing" pp tool, it's bull.)

a lot of good tips here. i went back to the set of photos i took and noticed just how much i really do center everything.....i swear i remember thinking about NOT centering so much during the shoot but hey, proof is in the pudding. sad to think i never even noticed the ridiculous amounts of dead space at the top of #2, I have re-cropped (top and left) and it truly does look a lot better.

#1 bottom left is the handrail to the steps she was sitting on. wished it wasn't there, couldn't really crop it out.

here is the one WITH the hand rail. Kelly really didn't like it but it was one of my favorites. Genuine smile and looks relaxed. Such a great gal to work with.

Still too much dead space. Frame a lady below the breast and try not to have the face in the middle of the frame. It should be closer to the top. Chop out the rail on the left too.
