I am really working hard within a 45 minute time frame. I want to get these so much better but I seem to miss it on so many levels. Maybe I need a medium format camera. My goal was to make a gentle image that had a feeling like maybe we visited this location before....

It's a nice shot but doesn't meet your stated goal. I agree that the black background isn't gentle, especially with the red and white petals. I think I would go for a softer color scheme and fewer shadows if the goal is a "gentle" image.
