I found this little guy at the end of my garden this morning, and i don't have a clue what it is, anyone else got any ideas? :)

Thanks for looking.

Looks like this one, right?

I googled this one up on this site (http://www.theroots.claranet.de/Flora__Fauna/balkon/balkon.htm), and in German it is called "Gemeine Stinkwanze", which is not a very favourable name! "Palomena prasina" is the Latin name, so the site says, now what would that be in English?

Google-google:
Ah, this site helps: http://www.gardensafari.net/english/shieldbugs.htm
A Green Shield Bug.

There you go.

I like your photo better than the one on the two sites I had googled!! ;)

aww thanks LF, at least i know what it is now, what an interesting name it has in german too!

its funny that the germans call them that. they are also called stink bugs. if you pick them up they give off a funny smell! used to catch them when i was a nipper. you get all different colours. i have found black and red ones in france!

neat shot... like the pleasing tones.. would crop closer (i think).. in order to avoid it from being centered... cool shot anyhow :D

Thanks putney for the warning, if i see one again there's no way i'll be touching it!

I cropped it to this, is this what you meant?

Thanks for everyones input.

Those are stink bugs? Feck! We get them all the time round here. Some green, some brown (I won't comment there...). We even had them all over the house after bringing in a plant. I've always let the be and I've yet to smell them. I won't poke them to so I can get a whiff now, either.

Very nice macro to. Good DOF.

Wow...great shot. I need a macro lens now. Very well done.
