This time, I got the male. Or I should say one of the males.
There has been some disagreement between three males over just who rules the ficus tree and I even saw a three-bird aerial battle yesterday.

They are very similar to the Red-Bellied Woodpeckers -that were favorites in NY- in looks, behavior, and even sounds.

The tree is currently fruiting and the birds are all over it, more than a half-dozen different species on any given day.

The location of the tree gives both good morning and afternoon lighting and some good opportunities for nice backgrounds.

And I have the time to take advantage of all those opportunities.
