Meike MK-550DL remote not working?

Hey guys,

First time DSLR (Canon T3i) and I purchased the meike MK-550DL battery grip. It's the grip with the LCD screen and intervelometer.

However I cannot get the remote to work. I set the LCD to show the remote icon and when I press the remote i can tell the T3i is metering the scene, but no photo.

Are there special settings the camera is supposed to be on as well as the grip?

I have a knock off with a remote from my 50D and I am pretty sure it was Meike. The remote never worked for it. They're cheap. You get what you pay for!

Thanks MLeeK. By chance did you have any luck trying another remote to see if it'd work with that grip?

No. I just got a wired one for the camera
