During my drive through Las Cruces, I stopped at the historic district of Mesilla. There's a small church called town square that was honored by the Catholic church with the designation of basilica. The Basilica of San Albino is one of just 85 churches in the nation to be named a basilica.

5- While visiting another basilica, I was told that the altar area was lit in such a way to cast shadows of the cross to represent the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Maybe that's what was happening here.

8- I saw this weathered door in front of a private residence a couple of blocks from the church.

9- While I was setting this shot up (focus stacking), the owner of this house came out onto the porch. I just smiled and waved and he immediately went back into the house. I'm sure he had no idea why I was taking this picture. But, I like framing compositions like this.

Great set. My personal favorites are 8 & 9.

What is it about the colors of turquoise & rust that grab me so much?! You know which pic is my favorite. # 3 had me wondering if those were painted on or shadows of Jesus on the cross and if so how they were created but #5 explained it. That's my #2 fav. (#3) Nice work, as always! I must try interior photographing some time, it may get me out more. :icon_thumright: Wait, what did I just say?

The Mesilla Valley and the subsequent Land Grant has a very colorful history.

Even today we still debate many merits of the legalities of the area.

The photos of the basilica are absolutely gorgeous, and the earthen tones of of the previously mentioned rust and turquoise is why I love it NM.
