Hi, I use a canon 350d (I think it is called rebel Xti in other countries). I just want to know quickly what the three metering modes are, and in which situations I should use them.
Thanks

The 350D is known as the Rebel XT. The 400D is the Rebel XTi.

Canon calls the three metering modes Evaluative, Partial and Center-Weighted.

As for when to use which...see this.

Thanks for that.
Anybody with anything else to offer?

Take a look at the link listed below. It is a XT/350D online lesson.
Once you are there, check out "Lesson 3 - Principles of Exposure Metering"

*scratches head* Does the 350D not have spot metering?

Nope. The Rebel series didn't get spot metering until the XSi (450D). All previous models only had 3 exposure modes...evaluative, parital and center-weighted.
