This just rolled through St Louis a couple hours ago. I had to jump out of the car and grab a snap when I saw the sky turning green. Green skies scare me.

I don't consider Ohio the mid-west. I don't know how anybody can. It's on the freaking east half of the country!

Cool Photo though man. Would like to see some more of the foreground though.

Crazy!

BTW what exactly defines "mid west"? I mean, it goes all the way to Ohio and Michigan, but what defines its boundary?

Very easily solved.

Midwestern United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes, Ohio is in the "Midwest." Boundaries as determined by the people who invented it.

Very awesome capture. It makes me want to run and hide even though I am not scared of the storms that one looks like it could turn really mean.

............ but what defines its boundary?

The US Census.

So you would call it part of the MidEast? MidNorth? I really don't consider Maryland and Delaware as part of "the South", but it is.

"Midwest" is generally considered Ohio at the eastern 'border', Missouri to the 'south', North Dakota at the Northwest corner, and back to Ohio.

Culture.

Lines on maps don't mean much -- people's behavior is what matters. For example the dividing line between the Midwest and the South is just 180 miles below St. Louis. If you go into a restaurant in St. Louis for a classic breakfast of two fried eggs, toast and sausage links or bacon, the side will be hash browns. If instead you ask for grits the waitress may look at you and say huh? and they won't have them. Down in New Madrid in the MO bootheel the odds are you'll be served grits on the side even if you don't ask for them. BBQ is another classic example. Here in St. Louis BBQ sauce is that horrid Kansas City style abomination of corn syrup and ketchup -- KC Masterpiece, Sweet Baby Ray, etc. Drive 15 miles across the Kentucky state line and right there in Wickcliffe KY you'll find Mike Prince's shop along the side of the road. The sauce is deliciously tangy with a touch of mustard and vinegar. If you ask for a BBQ sandwich in St. Louis you'll get meat?? on a bun soaked in corn syrup sauce. If you ask for a BBQ sandwich in Arkansas you'll get BBQed pork on a bed of coleslaw on a bun with sauce on the side -- as God intended.

As you can surmise I live about 180 miles too far north.

Same is true if you travel west or east. In the midwest if we need to wear a hat we wear a ballcap. When you get to Wichita you start to see cowboy hats in the mix. Our shirts button; they have shirts that snap with fancy pearly snaps. Nobody in St. Louis wears shirts that snap.
