I finally got brave and decided to try my hand at this photography. I got a clear night while in the country at my parents house and spent a little bit of time outside.

I know that there is room for improvement in focus and technique but I was happy with the start.

1) Just the sky.

2) With the trees in the foreground.

Nice. Is that a shooting star in #2 (top left) or just a start of a trail?

Thanks Jamie. I believe that it is. I saw a couple that night and I think I captured 3-4 in the shots I was taking.

A great start! Now just work on finding an interesting foreground.

Wow! Someday I'll get around to trying some of this! Until then, I'll have to admire everyone else's! Love the colors!

btw for anybody with an iPhone - I'm sure somebody could chip in with the Android and *coughMicrosoftcough* alternative - there's an app called Sky Guide which will tell you exactly where everything is in relation to you. The moon, galaxies, the sun, the ISS, and various planets, moons, stars and satellites.

I am in no way affiliated with it btw

That's cool!
I'm also looking foward shooting the Milkway, but it's impossible in a large metro area...
I guess I have to plan some vacations!!

That I will do. I'm already planning to try different locations.

Thanks Jazzie.

Looks great! I want to try one too!

Thank you Julian

Thanks ruifo. Just take off out in the countryside one evening. (Just make it a day when you can sleep in late the next day.) lol

Kewl ..

I use a few iPhone apps to determining when /where planets and stars are:
Planets - from Dana Peters. This is an easy app and great for planets/moon, stars ,etc. Free too
Planet Finder
Skyfree View
Skyweek - website with tons of information you can read of what is upcoming

if you're looking for an app to plan night shooting, photopills put out an update that is probably the best planning guide out. I don't have an iphone, and they don't have an android version yet, but a few of my astrophotographer friends use it and it's amazing

Just did it, taking advantage of a recent trip to a "remote" location. So here I'm sharing my two attemp shots:

Any C&C is more than welcome.

ruifo, do you do any editing of those images ?, out of interest,

Lightroom 5.6 enhancements, after shooting in RAW.
But no Photoshop edits. Nothing hardcore or fancy at all. Just small enhancements with LR.

How long are your exposures? if they are long enough, you should try shining a light on the trees for a couple seconds to bring out the trees in the foreground
