Hello I have jusr purchased a second hand Minolta Flashmeter IV and need some help.

Firstly if I set the meter up for Ambient and Fno measurements for single reading for say F5.6 when I take the actual reading I get the time value but also the Fno may change to say F5.69 which is nearly F8 I don't understand whats going on here any help would be appreciated.

Also when F5.6 is set in Fno ambient mode once a reading has been taken and say the fno chane to F5.69 how do I get it to read F5.6 again for a new reading I am very confused here. Is the meter faulty?

My left hand side settings settings are fno, fno, norm, and single

Right hand settings ambient,fno

Any help would be appreciated

Thank

I'm not quite sure I'm following your question but this answers what I think you're asking. The Minolta Flash IV expresses and shutter-speed in "whole speeds" that is: 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, etc. If the ambient light measurement is doesn't match that exactly, it will change the aperture value to reflect that (eg: f5.69 vice f5.6).

What is going is that there's just a little more light than the meter considers optimum for the shutter-speed you have selected, so instead of showing f5.6, it reads f5.69 which is NOT very close to f8 at all. I don't think there's anything wrong with the meter at all. You can download a copy of the manual here.

Many thanks for the reply,

I was assuming the small 9 to the right hand side of the Fno (5.6) Display was indicating 9/10 of a stop more than F5.6 hence me thinking its nearly F8

I am obviously being thick here as I was expecting that anything over or under a full stop reading in fno mode would be shown against the Time display rather than the Fno display.
