mirror lockup + remote trigger = 0?

I have the Canon XTI. I was trying to use my rc5 remote trigger and mirror lockup and it seemed not to work. Is there a setting I am missing or is it just set up that way?

Do you have mirror lockup enabled in the menu? Also, did you try pressing the button half way to lock up the mirror then press the button fully...

Mirror lock up should work without a problem with a remote. Try setting the timer mode and see if mirror lock up works with that whilst using the remote. If it does it might show that your remote has a slightly dodgy trigger button and that when you press it once its actually sending two signals to the camera (which thus causes the shutter to open and close and defeats the point of mirror lockup.
