Yeah, in a sense it happens all the time, but to me, that means at least I'm paying attention to the beauty all around us.
I tend to agree with many of the others--sure, there's times that I may lament not having a camera (or for whatever reason, having a camera and not being able to stop and get the shot) AT the time, but it's pretty rare that the "missed opportunity" matters much even a day or two later. On to the NEXT opportunity, the next beautiful/cool/unusual thing to see…
I *did* have an experience on Tuesday that pretty much bummed me out… A friend called on Monday and asked if I could get the day off Tuesday to go with her to Brevard, NC where a snowy owl had been seen for several days in a row. I started to say I just couldn't do it, but didn't want to pass on that opportunity, so I re-arranged my vacation schedule, plus had to work late on Monday to get everything done so I could be out on Tuesday. We headed out early in the morning, after checking ebird and FB for any further sightings…got there, couldn't find the owl. Checked FB again--someone had posted about 30 minutes before we got there, that the owl had been captured and taken into rehab the night before. Two and a half hour trip for absolutely nothing, and a wasted vacation day! At least, that was my initial reaction. But you know, it was five hours (round trip) of time with a friend, it was an absolutely beautiful day, we stopped at a little local restaurant and had a delicious meal, AND we got a story to tell out of the deal. So, it's all in how you look at it.
If you focus on those missed opportunities, you get pretty frustrated. If you focus on the NEXT opportunity, and on enjoying all the shots you HAVE gotten, you'll be much better off.
To me, it's kind of like the difference between focusing on the problems in your life and focusing on the blessings in your life. Chances are, there are PLENTY of both--but which category you focus on often determines your attitude.
