What's new

Model: Jill D.

Well Emily, with the exception of #2 I find the backgrounds too distinct & distracting.

Huh....that was my main concern with these as well...the background in the first one for example...that wintery tree...Ugh!!! Very much competing for attention with her.

2 for me, 1 2nd. 3 and 4, don't like the color of her jacket and pose. The black jacket, along with black hair, eye liner, and make up along with her pale face, I don't know.

I do like the good girl (#1) and bad girl (#3) concept. #1's background doesn't distract me too much but the background in #3 and #4 don't seem to fit with the "bad" girl look (I guess I was half expecting a more "industrial" scene perhaps...). For #2, I can't quite place my finger on it but the crop at the knees just isn't working for me.

#1 is very nice.
I think her hair sticking up makes it a little less so though.
Although I do understand that could be a bit difficult to fix.
Otherwise, it is a very nice shot. Love the vibrant colors and
the lighting.

#2 is nice, but I feel that her dress and other parts of her are
very jagged. I think they need to be smoothed out so it won't
look so choppy.

#3 is most definetly my favorite. I don't see any problems with
that one. The lighting is great and I love how the background
is blurred out. Although, I do feel like the way she is standing
brings the focus more to her chest than her head. I know that
sounds wrong (lol), but it just seems that her head is a little
blurrier than her chest.

#4 is great. I love the natural look of her hair covering her
face and the look of it blowing around. Very vibrant colors
and excellent depth of field.

Exposure is nice, focus is sharp, nice lighting. Are you using only a reflector? I dont see much of a catchlight in her eyes, but see a soft reflection of something. I have seen you post mostly band pictures, I think you should get out on more portait work, looking good.

2.

I was curious about number 2 because it seems out of place with the good exposures on the other 3. Here's a little tweak for comparison. Cool texture on the dress.

Im not a big fan of the posing in two. thats just my opinion though. Her face says serious but the pose says fun. There seems to be a dark blotch on the left side of her forehead in 3. 4 is my fave.

Wow, lots of feedback! You guys are awesome! :sillysmi:

Okay...

The subject is well lit in all but number 2. TOD and settings are making the backgrounds a little meh *shrug*. I love that the black leather reads as black while maintaining detail. I like the exposure in number one but don't like how the tones in the hair are similar to the branch tones. Are you just using a fill light or do you have something more elaborate set up?

What does TOD mean?

I was using off camera flash with an... octobox? Is that what it's called? I borrowed it from someone, haha.

Thanks for your feedback! :sillysmi:

Shot 4 is by far the best, she has relaxed into the shoot and is looking natural, i usually reject the first 20 shots because it takes time for them to get into the shoot, the first 2 shots she looks stiff

Thanks for your feedback! It was also *freezing* that day (and it wasn't supposed to be. Stupid weather...) so that might have had something to do with her stiff look.

1 and 2 are 'nice and clean.'

But on 3 and 4 i'm seeing some photoshop smudges or discolorment (is that a word?) on the forehead, like you attempted to clone out a lose strand of hair or something. Did you do any work there?

Yes I did, I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks for your feedback!

::nods:: Thanks for your feedback, Ron! :sillysmi:

Can you elaborate on that? It's probably very obvious what you mean, but I'm an airhead. What do you mean by her dress and other parts look jagged?

Thanks for the edit! Did you just think that 2 was underexposed, then? Is that what you're getting at?

Thanks for your feedback! I'll take a look at number 3 again.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK THE TIME TO RESPOND! Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

I am such a lazy typer... TOD= Time of Day.

Yeah, I thought the body in number two looked flat because you can't read any volume in the form. For me, the image seems to have much more depth when you can see that texture in the dress. "Pop" as it were.:D
