What shots do you need to get for a model shot for her portfolio?

You should probably ask the model what kind of shots he/she needs for his/her portfolio.

The ones the model's agency wants.

There are only about 1500 working models in the entire USA. It is one of the rarest jobs in the US.

I would suggest (like mjhoward did) ask the model what kind of shots he or she wants for him or her portfolio. If the model has some experience, he/she will tell you that I want “X Y Z” shot with specific poses that I have in mind. However, if your model is new, you can take a fashion magazine with you to show him/her few of the poses just to get your and him/her creative juices flowing and then you guys can take some awesome shots. Talk to the person that wants the photos done, it's a basic second question. The first question would be "Are you sure you want me doing this, I don't know what the next question to ask is"
