Met up with a local camera club outing where they were photographing models. It was a very warm day and the time was from 2:30 - 5:00 ish. So I took advantage of my flash (Flashpoint Streaklight 360) and a new HSS radio triggers (Phottix Oden II) to get some high speed sync images. Thought I would share a couple.

This was my first time trying to use HSS. What I learned is that it should/will allow me some extra time in the evening for portraits, as I can start a little earlier in the day. Still have plenty of room for improvement, but it is a start.

1) She had her back to the sun, not sure I needed HSS but I like the results. 1/640, f/4.0 at ISO 100.

2) I probably should have pushed the shutter a little higher to make the sky and clouds a little bit better. 1/800, f/4.0 at ISO 100.

Very nice, I plan on zapping the birds on the balcony with a few bursts of HSS soon. Will just have to test how far the flash reaches at different shutter speeds. I think the falloff is quite dramatic.

awesome balance here imho.

Thank you goooner. Yes, the falloff seems to be much more with this and I was using higher powers on my flash (1/1, 1/2 and 1/4 most of the time) to get the flash and stand out of the frame.

Note: I was using it barebulbed with a reflector that comes with it. My friend has the same light with a beauty disk but I did not use his dish to test it. (That is something that I will do on my next shoot.)

I especially like the second one (pretty model) but I wouldn't have cropped or shot her quite so close to the bottom of the frame.

Both came out good but I also prefer #2 because of the pose. Just think it's more natural. But the lighting in both looks good.

Sweet Baby Jesus, those are nice.

Here is one more that I really liked. The crop is done on purpose because she was hold her son's toy and a bottle of water in her hand as we were resting. (She is expecting her second child) Canon 24-70mm @54mm, f/4.0, 1/800 at ISO 100
