Mono to fluidhead screw adapter?

I did not see this one coming.

I have a fluid head with " the larger" female screw in base. It fits my MKII Tripod, but not my Monopod. I never caught this difference. so my questions.

The gitzo MKII monopod - the screw does not look, or feel removable. IS it? the site did not state so. I don't want to strip it.
Is there an adapter that fits the smaller male screw of the mono with the other side fitting the larger female screw of the fluid head?

I know I am not the first, and I know this industry LOVES adapters. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
