Monopod suggestions

Suggestions for best monopods for under $100? I am 6"3'' tall. Would like something in 72" range with quick release.

Certainly not under $100 ($170), but I have and like this combo. Manfrotto 685B plus the swivel head.

Manfrotto and Bogen are the same company - Bogen is just the US trading name whilst Manfrotto is the European

i'm 6'3" as well and don't need that much height. I find one that will go to a max of 65" works fine. Remember the camera will sit on top of the pod adding height. However here is a list of the ones with the height you requested.

As for quick release. That will depend on what you put on it.

I bought a solid one from a prominent Canadian camera store via amvona.com. It is similar in quality to Manfroto and the other big guys at a price under $100 Canadian.

Picking a monopod isn't all that tough. Pick one that is the height you need with your body on top.

Pick one that will support at least twice the weight of your heaviest gear for stability.

Lever locks/twist locks on the legs are a matter of personal preference. What ever you choose just has to lock the leg in place tightly.

Head on top or not again is a matter of personal choice. Me no ball head. If placed in the portrait mode it defeats the purpose of a monpod by putting the weight of the gear off the side of the pod.

Quick release again a matter of choice. For me a definate yes. For me the arca-Swiss system. It is more expensive, but it is the most versitle. Long leg feet allow you to center the weight of the gear when using a lens with a collar or center the weight of the body as the arca-Swiss plates can be moved forward and back in the QR clamp. L-brackets allow you to quickly go from landscape mode to portrait mode and keep the body centered over the pod.
