More bike tricks

These are from my second shoot with Dennis.
The vert ramp has to come down so sadly it will be our last shoot on that, the indoor part still has more to offer however.

Took a few different shots from this angle, its about the only one that worked, shot from straight ahead there was abig black window that he blended in with.
His pick on the the trick, i think they all turned out pretty well.

this photo i wanted to have more of a timeless feel to it, so i didn't light him up as much as normal. the trick is that hard, but got it clicked and at height. i like that he is isolated in the upper corner, and balances out the frame there. biggest problem i had with this photo was my fear of height as i crawled on the roof of a warehouse that was about 8 feet taller than this full sized vert ramp.

I like the first one. second one because of how dark the image is i'd of liked to see him a bit more prominent in the shot.

I find it difficult to separate to rider from the background. I know that bike shots are all about location and showing more of a wide shot, but don't think these ones really work. Without knowing the whole set up and what other angles you had to work with it's difficult to say "you should have done this or tried that" The second one is really lost in the dark.

What imagemaker said! I think some more light, and less DoF would have helped greatly to isolate the rider from the background.

This was the only angle that worked without shooting fisheye (which is played out.) The second is obviously darker than normal, I shot and edited it that way. The sun was just about all the way down, so i had no ambient to help the back ground, Not that there was anything important there (just a parking lot) I wanted his presence to be known but not completely nuked out like alot of photos.

i'll try opening up the lens more in the future, I dont like going wider than 5.6 because when it gets to shallow the rider is almost always out of focus. I pre focus on the ramp usually anyway but the riders never hit the same spot twice...

Ya I've tried spot focusing while shooting downhill skiing on blind spots, same thing it's a crap shoot with them not hitting the same spot, and at 80mph you don't see much. 5.6 is about what I would work with as well, maybe open it up a little bit. I think the second shot would have worked well if there was a little more profile on the bike.
