More fisheye fun

And the last of the three. I corrected distortion and cropped this one. It's too bad there's so much construction crap cluttering it up. Though I plan to return after the building opens in April to get some good final shots.

These were the final edits I ended up going with for the website. I took the advice of cropping out the vignetting and straightening them as much as I could. Unfortunately the distortion is just too complex for PSE and, well, my skill level isn't good enough either. And also, keep in mind these aren't advertising photos, they're more just to demonstrate the progress of the building. There were also other photos taken with standard lenses, but they weren't very good. Looked too much like snap shots since my lenses aren't wide enough for indoor shots.

6. While I was walking around taking photos, the contractors installing this fireplace were really working hard to get it lit for the first time so I could get a photo with some fire. Unfortunately, they ran into some problems and couldn't get it lit. So, I hid my SB600 up inside the exhaust vent so I could at least illuminate the inside a bit so it didn't look like a big black hole. In hind sight I also should have cleared all that crap away from the base...

hmm i've been looking at an 18mm fisheye lens for my 7D and i think these pictures just confirmed it or one of a similar focal length.

also the pictures look amazing! i can't wait for when the place opens and you get some finished product shots.

18mm is entirely too long for a fish eye on a crop camera. The 15mm one I have almost looks like a badly distorted UWA zoomed out all the way instead of a fish eye when used on a 1.6x crop APS-C sensor.

Yep, 18mm is the wide end of most kit lenses for crop body cameras...not really even ultra wide; let alone fish eye.

oh well dang. i guess it is back to searching around again.

anyway end of accidental thread hijack.

Very cool, I have to say the 2nd photo is my favorite. I was thinking about getting a fisheye lens, I just don't know how much I would use the lens in the long haul.

yes I like the other ones better, this is making me really wanna go out and get a fish eye, Great work!

Thanks. If the lens wouldn't have been a free acquisition, I probably wouldn't have actually gotten one. It's really neat, and very useful for certain situations, but it's really tricky to use, and to pull off. Actually, I can't say I wouldn't buy one, but it would just be pretty far down my priority list.

Thanks! Once the building has been open for a little bit, I fully intend to get some finished shots. Hopefully with a new Tokina 11-16mm (once my tax returns come back!) And hopefully with some patrons in place.

Agreed! Mine's 8mm, and I think the only reason it works as well as it does is because the nature of the lens, making the full circular image and all. It at least still allows me the full 180 deg FOV along one axis of the frame and near 180 deg FOV on the other.

Just for fun, I though you guys might get a kick out of how this monster looks mounted to my baby Nikon. It's ridiculous... Photo taken with a... *clears throat*... Canon
