The lighting seems pretty decent, but I am not a fan of the crop, especially in the first one.

Agreed - the lighting is good, but not the crops. Having said that, I don't agree with tirediron in that portraits demand only portrait orientation

Its not that I don't like the horizontal framing... I actually often am a fan of negative space... I just don't like how the first one is chopped right above her chest like that. It makes her seem too compressed or something.

I really like #2, the lighting is good and I don't mind the crop on it. The street lamp is a little distracting though.

Fair comment! What I should have said was, "Why shoot these portraits in landscape orientation?" Given that there is no discernable content of interest in the empty space, and I feel that they would be stronger if there was more of the person in the image.

I like #2 more due to better lighting making it easier to see her. the first one is too dark on the right side. If you want to see darker than this, check out my thread I posted yesterday.

I agree the orientation/ crop on #1 is a little off putting. For #2, I kinda feel the light on the subject and the background don't really mesh. It's probably just me, but it almost looks like she was PS'd into the scene (the pole coming out of her head also doesn't work for me).

I would say if you had shot her with a CTO gel, it may have blended a bit better, but right now she is cool, and your background is very warm.

Dont like #1. it seems like the light behind her is more of the focus. But I really like #2. She seems for of the focus here. Lighting is nice but a bit on the bright side probably due to the white jacket.
