They kind of look like something out of a horror picture.

Good job, I think you nailed it this time. Colors are working well together, you've simplified the image and have a strong focus point. Number 2 is my favorite, but a little boost in luminosity of the seed pod in Number 1 would make it a tough choice.

Dont apoligize for repeatedly trying to photograph the same subject. If you lile seed pods. Take pictures of seed pods. They woll improve and challenge your creativity. Post as many as you wish

And this is a direct conversion from the .NEF file which is a good argument to leave well enough alone at times. Now that I compare it to the sharpened version, I like it better.

Think I have to agree with the unedited version. The only improvement opinion I could offer on the unedited one would apply to either, I think they would benefit by a getting rid of the dead space at the bottom cropping tighter to the bottom of the pod and centering it. Just curious, which editing software do you use, and do you adjust WB.

I use ViewNX2 as my 1st step. It is a touch sharper than my version of LightRoom. I then import the converted .tif into LightRoom and sometimes to PS CS5 if needed.

Like that crop better. Don't think the stem at the bottom was adding much. If you're using LR, I'd use this last one to synch WB settings to #2. If that doesn't match them up you might have to synch the color settings also. Print them as a matched set and enjoy!!!

They are both balanced to FLASH in ViewNX2

I'm assuming that Nikon's utility is somewhat basic like Pentax UT5. I would seriously consider using LR's development preset for your camera. Tweek that until you get it close then save it as a preset. When you import your raw files from your SD card tell LR to use your custom preset. Saves a lot of time.

ViewNX2 has a couple of features I like. I like that I can choose a color profile like Vivid or Landscape and apply them to my RAW file. Also I like the way it sharpens a RAW file better than LR. So I start with ViewNX2, then export to a .tif and then finish with LR or PS. Not the most efficient work flow but it is what I do.

Yes that's pretty close. Still some minor color difference but that might be in the luminosity. Did you synch all settings in LR or just WB? Overall looking good.
