I really want to love these shots, but there's just something about the lighting that I can't seem to get right and it's driving me crazy!

For me the lighting is a uneven and that's probably what bothering you. Also it's hard to tell what you want to be your point of interest. There's just an all over pattern and no real defined subject. The colors are nice and I like lichens.
